My favourite word is “ambivalent.”
am-biv-a-lence [am-biv-uh-luhns]
1. uncertainty or fluctuation, esp. when caused by inability to make a choice or by a simultaneous desire to say or do two opposite or conflicting things.
2. the coexistence within an individual of positive and negative feelings toward the same person, object, or action, simultaneously drawing him or her in opposite directions.
If you’ve ever spent more than a few hours with me, you will realize how well this word describes me. I am a walking (dancing) and talking (singing) contradiction. I’m mood-swingy and it is impossible for me to make a decision, because usually my two favoured choices are complete polar opposites.
I’m sure it drives everyone around me positively batty.
Do you have a favourite word? And does it pertain to you in an especially evident way?
I mainly like words that roll off of my tongue, like dividend and gibbous. I don’t think they really have any special meaning to me; I just like saying cool words.
I have different ‘favorite words’ and phrases all the time. Currently my word is perfidy (this doesn’t describe me, but I just like the meaning, well I don’t like it but it makes sense, well you just have to read the definition):
Now do you get why I love this word?
Hmm… I’ll really have to think about this. I’m not sure what my favorite word is. I’ve never really thought about it. I have been using the word “namely” lately. *blush*
Juvenile delinquent! Lol, I’m kidding. Ambivalent reminds me of a quote/phrase/thingy though: Give us ambiguity or give us something else! LOL.
My favorite word is “groovy”. I just think it sounds cool and reminds me of the 60s.
My favourite word is defenestration. I just love it for the definition!
I love the word ineffable and I blame Terry Pratchett for that. It means something that is undeniable, but one of his characters uses it constantly as an expression of disdain and it’s hilarious. Nothing much to do with me! I do like the word ambivalent as well, it’s very fluid.
I’m a little late on this post. But boy oh boy do i ever love the word copious!
co-pi-ous: (koh-pee-uhs)
1. large in quantity or number; abundant; plentiful: copious amounts of food.
2. having or yielding an abundant supply: a copious larder; a copious harvest.
3. exhibiting abundance or fullness, as of thoughts or words.
I just like the way it rolls off the tongue.
Mine is amalgamate. I sometimes use it just for the sake of it.
I like to write the word different though.
