These are my shoes:
Firstly, I am quite embarrassed that they are so dirty! But, what can I say? They are well-loved. I love ballet flats, and I hardly wear anything else on my feet! Which is why, when I saw the flurries outside my window this morning, this was my shoe choice. For those of you who don’t understand Calgary weather, we don’t usually get a lot of snow, but we can get it well into May when we do. It is only the beginning of April, so of course, snow is not unheard of. Usually, though, it flurries in the morning, and melts as the day goes on.
Today, however…
It’s a bit difficult to tell from this photo, because another weird thing about our weather is how quickly it changes, but oh my, we got a dumping of snow today! This was taken after a brief period of sunshine which inspired a bit of melting around 1pm. Yesterday, there was NO snow to be seen. It was rather warm out, and I opted for just a light sweater. This morning, at 7.30am when I left for work, there was a light dusting of snow. By noon we’d reached roughly one foot (12 inches) here in the Northwest!
For those of you keeping track, you may be figuring out my predicament. For everyone else, let me recap. My shoes cover about one inch of my feet. The snow was twelve inches. Problem? Yes. Cold problem? Heck yes.
Combined with mud splashing all over, late buses and a sinus infection that has edged its way into my life, today was not a good day! Especially for my poor poor feet. They were blue and red (purple!) when I got home, and oh so cold!

Ah, the dilemma of short shoes and tall snow. You’re not alone, Aisling. Many others have suffered from this, too.
Why is the weather so random in Canada?
Aww.
Yeah I totally understand. It is one of my biggest (and silliest) pet peeves…wet/cold feet as a result of rain/snow seeping into the shoe.
That is definitely some crazy weather! O.o
I’ve never been near real snow, so I wouldn’t really know how it feels. Must be annoying! I can only relate this to my feet sinking in sand at the beach making it SO hard to walk.
Oh and those shoes are dirty
Oh, Aisling. You should’ve worn thick socks and boots.
Buy snow boots! They are fluffy, warm and ever so nice
Wowie, how old are those shoes? But i like the look of them… if only they weren’t so dirty :P. And, I’m so jealous of the snow!
I would die
Especially since when I wear sneakers, my feet still get cold in the snow. I can’t imagine flats!
awee… cold toes are the worst >< Gimme sunshine please !!!1
Surprisingly enough Victoria got snow a few weeks ago too. What’s with the weather this year??
You should carry your flats around in your purse. And get some awesome boot thingies.. galoshes they’re called? my spelling is prolly way off, but they’re so cute!
Okay, no.
I am supposed to be going to Quebec City in 11 days. I want to wear shorts. I know this is aiming a little high, so how about we just say I DO NOT WANT TO WEAR A WINTER JACKET AND BOOTS.
It’s not supposed to snow in April!
Never mind that you live nowhere near me, but meh.
Canadian winters can go live somewhere else.
I wore flats in the snow before.. it wasn’t a very pleasant experience. I thought I was only going to work (park in garage at home and underground at work) but I ended up going to my BF’s house afterwork and I had to park soo far away and then walk to his house in the snow. My toes were soo cold!
I can’t wear ballet flats, they hurt v.v
I think I should just suck it up since they look so good. ^^
It’s April and it’s still snowing?? I hope that storm isn’t coming to Toronto because I’ve already started wearing my mini skirts and short dresses! :S
I wore slippers once out on a snowy day once. My residence was right next to my class, I was so lazy to change out to my shoes so I just walked over. LOL! Bad idea. My toes were about to fall off by the time I got to class.
Yikes, that’s intense! It started snowing here the other day in the middle of a french movie in a scene about snowstorms, haha.
Your flats look comfy. I still need to find a non-painful pair!
Ouch… that reminds me, two days ago I wore a rather flimsy pair of trousers because they looked so good, but after 2 hours of freezing my arse off I was mentally cursing myself.
Heh: must be a girl thing, I guess. I hope you get better soon.
Oh my gosh! My feet would totally freeze if I wore ballet flats all the time. Of course, my shoe of choice is the kind with little holes all in them, so I’m not much better off to be honest. You need some snow boots girl! Next time, wear some better shoes!
... down. Or when you’re just chilling on a +18C day (like I am today! Big difference from the blizzard we had on Thursday, ...
