I may have mentioned before, that I am extremely afraid of ladybugs. It is an irrational fear, which makes it difficult to explain, and even more difficult to overcome.
Today, I was doing yard work. Which I usually don’t mind. I like gardening. But this work was gross. My dog, Spice, has a small yard where she stays when she can’t be supervised. This is due to her penchant for digging and being a general nuisance. She has a special area where she goes to do her business. With my brother out of town, and the winter being the way winter generally is, this area has been slightly neglected. So, today, I had to clean it out. Which wouldn’t have been too big of a deal. I’ve been a dog owner for 9 years. I am used to poo. I also have cats.
I wasn’t prepared for the HUNDREDS OF LADYBUGS living and breeding under the dog poo. It was my worst nightmare, come true! I cried. But, I was also yelled at for being silly, and told that I must to my job. So, I cried, and shovelled, and attempted to kill as many of those little bastards as possible.
I am proud to say that now a large chunk of the population of EVIL are dead under my shovel. Which I was quickly told was an awful thing for me to do, since supposedly ladybugs are helpful.
NO THEY ARE NOT! THEY ARE THE DEVIL INCARNATE. HOW DARE YOU!!
I’d much prefer aphids.
They never should have yelled at you for your fear. That was very mean of them. I am sorry for you.
But ladybugs are very helpful to lawns. But then probably not in your case.
Aww poor ladybugs. There are adorable little creatures :3
I feel the same way about june bugs. I freak when I hear their buzzing. But when I pick up a lady bug (they’re fun things) I put them in my inside plants. I get yelled at for the fear I have of june bugs. People even go so far as to catch them & chase me into a room & throw them in the room with me & lock me in.
Aww.. *gives big squishy hug*
Ahhh! That’d scare me so much!
Especially june bugs. They’re absolutely HUGE!
I know what it feels like to have a phobia (and how annoying it is when people pretend it’s nothing) and yet, *lmao*. Least you got rid of the ladybugs in your area - I’m sure the survivors will warn the rest. :P
Oh my gosh, that is TERRIFYING. Being horribly afraid of moths myself, I know what it’s like to have an (ir)rational fear… I’d pretty much die if I were in your position. Having to shove dog poo is one thing, but dealing with a colony of ladybugs underneath? *DIES*
Also - Ladybugs are SCARY. But I can’t seem to bring myself to kill them because people like them (unlike moths - nobody likes moths), but that doesn’t stop me from running and screaming when they LAND on me.
You’re a brave woman.
OMG! I thought ladybugs were supposed to be adorable ickle cutesy insects…not demonic poo dwellers…what an awful visual I have now! Not so much the fact they were around poo, but the sheer volume of them. Seeing hundreds of any kind of insect at the same time would make me run in fear.
Like Chanel, I’m also scared of moths, and bees as well. *Shudders*
PS - Thanks for commenting on my blog by the way - nice to meet you
Haha, that’s a really weird phobia! Those are the *only* type of bugs I like. I’m aware they’re just fancy looking beetles, but the shell makes a world of a difference :P
I think you owe them an apology or something :P The ladybug population just went down by 0.0001%
Awww poor you! Like Jessica, I HATE June bugs! *shudders* And mega big horseflies. They always attack me in the pool. I don’t really like any insects to be honest. They could all hurt me in my opinion. I never knew ladybugs liked dog poo though. How weird!
I like ladybugs. They’re one of the few bugs I actually don’t mind… But a swarm of bugs, any type of bugs, living under dog poo would be enough to make me upset too. *hugs* I would have bribed someone else to do it.
That is so funny! I consider ladybugs lucky. You would have died if you were me during the fall, the little guys followed me every where. I had over 30 in my dorm room once and that is not an exaggeration, I counted. I was quite happy though because I adore them!! My sister is afraid of them as well. I don’t like the orange ones because they bite, but I love the reds. I’m sorry to hear about your experience though, I would have reacted the same way had they been bees or something. I’ve never been stung and I am therefore horrified of bees because I don’t want to get stung ha ha
AWH! Poor Aisy!
At least you pulled through it, hehe.
I lol’d at the “population of EVIL”…
